Champagne Louis Roederer

Cristal

1990

Created in 1876 at the express request of Tsar Alexander II of Russia, Cristal was the world’s first prestige champagne. The wine was originally bottled in fine lead crystal with no punt. Legend has it that the Tsar not only wanted a unique cuvée for his table, but he also desired a bottle that could not conceal an assassin’s bomb.

Today, Cristal is recognized as the pinnacle of great champagnes. It is made from the finest cuvées pressed from grapes originating exclusively in Louis ROEDERER vineyards rated 97.5% on the "cru" classification scale.

Tasting Notes

Sparkling gold color with delicate amber highlights. Fine, abundant mousse, with a long-lasting ring of bubbles at the surface. Complex and expressive bouquet, revealing aromas of ripe, almost jammy, fruit (apples, pears). Floral and brioche hints.
On the palate the wine is well structured and offers rich fullness. Characteristic of the maturity of the year, the wine is marked by good vinosity balanced by the freshness of the Chardonnay. Silky texture with long aftertaste. A classically designed vintage, which drinks beautifully.
