4 Stars - Highly Rec "Apricot, honey and lychee aromas, and silky textured sweetness."
91 Points "Exciting musk and peach aromas make for an attractive, pure nose. More peach fruit drives the palate along with melon and cinnamon. When it transitions to the finish, things turn smoky, dry and complex. This is very well made and should find wide appeal."
93 Points "Cuvee Anne is made only in select vintages, this being the tenth since 1945. In '98, it's bold and heady, a huge globe of a wine, with a buxom texture pointed up by gewurtz spice. The spice lasts, sticks to the taste buds like the prick of holly leaves even as the texture feels more like a gel, wholesome and round. The wine seems rich rather than sweet, for pork in aspic or other rich and savory meats."
93 Points "This elegant wine offers a panoply of flavors, with peaty earth and coffee notes underscoring dried apricot and bergamot, with a hint of basil. Off-dry, with well-integrated acidity and a tinge of grapefruit on the finish. Drink now through 2020."
91 Points "Scents of orange blossom and rose rise from the glass; it's vividly sweet, full of lime flavor and a chalky minerality, with a zesty acidity that keeps it fresh and alive."
95 Points "A pure, beautifully structured wine, with layers of dry botrytis delicately poised over mangoes and spice. Intriguing because it is both sweet and dry at the same time, a great balancing act, and it manages to retain varietal character, hard to do with sweet wines."
90 Points "A floral version that's just off-dry and lush, backed by juicy acidity and a smoky undercurrent. This layers candied orange and pineapple notes with pleasantly bitter hints of pink grapefruit peel and green papaya, with a touch of curry spices. A rich style, but balanced nonetheless."
90 Points "Mid-gold color. Intense on the nose, showing lots of developed aromas of savory earthiness and honey, with hints of botrytis and spice adding complexity. Quite dry, with dominant earthy savoriness and spice following through on the palate alongside flavors of dried apricots and golden raisins. Smooth, rich and viscous but balanced by fresh acidity. Fairly full-bodied, with a fairly long rich finish."
"The noblest of the Schlumberger wines we tasted that day. Deep gold hue, mineral-earthy petroleum nose, with aromatic floral notes, deeply concentrated, huge structure, with finish to match. Buy as much as you can."
Gold Medal Winner "A powerful nose with pure and really expanse spicy aromas. This is a big step-up in quality for the region - impressive So sweet, yet not cloying. Up to 10 years."
91 Points "This silky white delivers lightly honeyed flavors of apricot, orange gélee, smoke and just a touch of toffee. Racy acidity finds precise balance with the wine's riper flavor profile, resulting in an elegant wine offering a long, spicy finish."
91 Points "The lightly floral nose belies the intensity of this off-dry white. The silky palate show honeyed flavors of guava and peach, to which a slightly bitter orange peel note is a pleasant counterpoint. Ends with a delicious, mouthwatering tang. Drink now through 2020. Tasted twice, with consistent notes."
90 Points "This is very ripe, with taut acidity and subtly textured minerality buttressing the sweet white peach and kumquat flavors."
91 Points Smart Buy "Hints of smoke, lemon curd and fresh forest floor add layers of complexity to the flavors of white peach, pink grapefruit and spiced orange peel in this well-cut white, which is elegant, with fine focus, a silky texture and a tangy, mouthwatering finish. Drink now through 2019."
94 Points #42 on the Top 100 Cellar Selections -- "With a few years’ aging, this is beginning to show its almond and toast side. The fresh acidity is now melding beautifully into a soft, ripe texture with layers of spice and acidity. Certainly worth aging further."
91 Points "Renowned for its Riesling, the Kitterle vineyard in Geubwiller benefits from southern exposure, meaning the fruit is generally able to ripen. This 1999 is impressive in its developing complexity, showing layers of petrol, fine acidity, minerality and elegance. Give it an other three to four years."
90 Points "Earthy in aroma, giving way to peach and quince flavors on a generous frame. A dry white, with the flesh winning out over the structure until the grapefruit-tinged finish takes over. From a 7.5-acre parcel mid-slope. Best from 2008 through 2018."
2 and 1/2 Stars "Domaines Schlumberger is the largest vineyard owner in Alsace, with more than 330 acres. Most of its vines are on steep, terraced slopes, and the winery uses horses instead of tractors. This wine comes from a vineyard with sandy soil mixed with gravel and chalk, and you can taste it: There's plenty of mineral along with some sweet citrus and a toasty note on the long finish."
91 Points "Blasts from the glass with intense apple and mineral aromas, followed by full-bodied (but not heavy) flavors on the palate. Picks up a hint of anise in the mouth, then finishes long, with lingering notes of fruit and mineral oil. This explosive wine is drinking well already, but should age gracefully over at least the next 5 - 7 years."
90 points, #85 of To "This family-owned estate was established in 1810. One of the largest in Alsace, it is managed by Séverine Beydon-Schlumberger and her uncle Alain Beydon-Schlumberger. Its Riesling Les Princes Abbés includes grapes from the winery's steep, Grand Cru vineyards along the Vosges Mountains near Guebwiller. After fermentation in large, temperature-controlled oak casks, the wine ages in stainless steel tanks for 12 to 18 months."
90 points, "Great Va "Riesling is the leading grape variety in this northeast France region lying near the German border. The grapes for this wine come from top vineyards such as the grand crus Kitterlé and Kessler. It was fermented in stainless-steel tanks and then aged on lees for up to eight months. This is an elegant, light- to medium-bodied white, with concentrated peach, citrus and mineral flavors."
2 and 1/2 Stars "Thisintensely aromatic wine delivers aromas and flavors of pear, diesel, apricot, pinecones and mushrooms, with a long, stony finish."
Wine of the Week "Classic "petroleum," pear, and mineral aroma, and a crisp, dry finish. Many Alsace houses have gone astray recently by making their wines too sweet, but this dramatic effort is not only well-priced but tart enough to go with a wide array of lighter foods."
