Château Loudenne Rouge 2014

As often quoted in the Médoc, “There is no great vineyard which cannot see the river.” Located west of the river Gironde, Château Loudenne stretches over a superb estate of 154 planted acres, and is one of the few châteaux that can boast a waterfront view of the Gironde. The Loudenne vineyard has an ideal location. Its gravel-based soil descends along a soft slope toward the Gironde estuary, which functions like a mirror. Loudenne also benefits from ocean breezes that create a favorable microclimate for the maturation of the grape: the flavor is concentrated through evaporation and mild humidity. The soil is predominantly clay and limestone.

Thermoregulated stainless steel and concrete vats. Average 25 days fermentation.

Harvest Notes

The 2014 vintage is characterized by mild but very rainy periods in winter (January, February), which favored a rapid growth of vegetation. The cool spring slowed down the development of the vine. July and August were cool and regularly watered, with sometimes hot spells over a few days. Beautiful sunshine in September and stable weather over several weeks allowed us to get the grapes to ripen well. The North Médoc and Loudenne were spared from the corridor of rain and storms which struck Saint-Estèphe and Pauillac.
