Delas Freres St. Joseph Sainte-Epine Blanc
The vineyards of Saint-Joseph stretch more than 35 miles along the right bank of the Rhone river, from Chavanay in the north, to Guilherand in the south. The soil is comprised of schist and gneiss rock over a granite base. The climate is moderate, with hot, dry summers and normal rainfall the rest of the year. The vineyards have south and southeastern sun exposure. St. Epine is a single vineyard selection.
The “St. Epiné” grapes are harvested by hand, at optimum maturity, from a single vineyard. After pressing, the musts are cold-settled, and fermentation takes place in small oak barrels.
The color is bright, with pale gold tinges. On the nose, the aromas build gradually, with hints of wildflowers, such as hawthorne and acacia, as well as minerals, such as flint. The palate is rich and full-bodied, with a faint taste of grilled hazelnuts. The mineral notes provide an elegant freshness and a lingering finish.
