“Boasts a beautiful core of fleshy white fruit and red currant, with mineral density and concentration on the palate. Richly textured and pure, with nice range to the dried hay, fresh chive, citrus pith and jasmine elements. Reveals a bitter quinine note, which brings focus to the long, harmonious finish. Mourvèdre, Cinsault and Grenache. Drink now through 2027.”

“This is a rich wine, its Mourvèdre giving concentration and a fine structure. From one of the Ott domaines, it has spice as well as layers of red fruits. Drink from later this year. Organic.”

“Fragrant and open from the first drop, this smells of nectarine core and kumquat skin. The palate has a medium-bodied, glossy texture with a discreet acidic line that twists up the back palate. Sleek, sexy and moreish, this has hints of croissant and baked white peach. A gloriously delicious rosé with expansive flavor and a solid finish.”

“The 2022 Rosé Château Romassan wafts up from the glass with a pretty blend of stone dust and savory herbs bwild strawberry hints. It’s silky and pliant on the palate, showing crisp orchard fruits, sour citrus and minerals that add a more tactile feel toward the close. This finishes potent and with admirable length. Young peach and sage hints slowly fade.”

Overview

Domaines Ott was founded in 1896 by Alsatian engineer Marcel Ott. Today, the wineries are owned and managed by Champagne Louis Roederer, producing some of the world’s most prestigious wines. These wines are made at three distinctively different estates: Château Romassan (Bandol), Clos Mireille, and Château de Selle (both Côtes de Provence).

Château Romassan is the third estate acquired by the Ott family in 1956, located in the Bandol appellation and lies at the foot of the village of Le Castellet. The soil is poor, composed of limestone, sandstone, and marine upper cretaceous marls. The Bandol appellation is known for its terraced landscapes built from the hard stone with vines, which are planted into vast terraces with varying exposures. The average vine age at Château Romassan is 14 years. The sea air from the bay of Bandol compensates for the terroir's acidity and low rainfall. The winery is located on 148 acres, which are fully devoted to wine production. Cultivation methods are traditional and the soil is mechanically tilled and young shoots are trained with the greatest care to the plant.

Domaines Ott wines are certified organic starting with the 2022 vintage.

Winemaking

The grapes are all handpicked and go through a stringent selective grape sorting, followed by an extremely delicate pressing process. Fermentation is done in thermo-regulated vats followed by aging in oak casks for six to eight months.

Tasting Notes

Light peach hue with a soft sheen. The nose is richly aromatic and slightly roasted. Notes of grapefruit are followed by those of exotic fruit, lemon and verbena. The full, round palate reveals aromas that are set off by a subtle touch of liquorice emphasising the character of the wine. The finish is slightly minty and zesty with candied citrus notes.

Harvest Notes

Once again, the 2022 vintage did not bring much water to our Provençal vineyards. This was very difficult for the vine and was also a real challenge for the winegrower. Over the course of its history, Domaines Ott has evolved to cope well in such conditions. With low rainfall levels up until late June and very high summer temperatures, all of our efforts were focused on keeping our clusters in an environment that was as cool as possible. To obtain perfectly ripe grapes, we were still hoping for some rain before the harvest. This long-awaited rainfall did not arrive until August 17th—coincidentally, the day harvest began. But we did not have just rain, we also had some hail, which was fortunately accompanied by heat and wind. Harvest finished on September 29th.
