“A pretty wine, with nice definition to the sweet lemon curd, fleshy green plum and thyme flavors, with subtle tropical highlights. Racy acidity and salty mineral add savory balance, with a quinine note at the conclusion. Drink now through 2024.”

“The la Poussie vineyard is one of the great lieux-dits to be found in Sancerre. The soils here include a flinty section, along with the more classic limestone and clay of Sancerre, which gives the wine an added degree of mineral complexity. The 2020 La Poussie bottling from the Ladoucette family is beautifully refined and complex on the nose, wafting from the glass in a mix of fresh lime, gooseberry, a lovely mosaic of minerality, fresh-cut grass and a top note of citrus blossoms. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, zesty and complex, with a lovely core, excellent mineral drive and backend lift, bouncy acids and a long, precise and very classy finish. This too comes in listed at 12.5 percent octane and is classically proportioned and very impressive! 2022-2035.”

Overview

Of all the centuries-old growths which dominate the majestic river Loire, La Poussie is the one whose reputation remains unblemished. Its origins can be traced back to the Capetians, as witnessed by a document dating from around 1040. The exceptional vineyard site, shaped in a semi-circle and reminiscent of a natural amphitheater, make it one of the most unique in the world.

Winemaking

Pneumatic pressing with a fragmentation of the juice, cold settling for 24 hours followed by fermentation in thermostatically regulated vats. Maturing on fine lees for several months according to tasting followed by a soft clarification before being bottled.

Tasting Notes

A beautiful minerality brings a lovely character. The palate is round with a finesse offering the aromatic flavors of gingerbread, honey and peach. The finish is persistent and ends on a light and refreshing mineral note. The first notes are very fine, complex and delicate. The aromas of peaches, quince and white flowers follow. Light aeration reveals the delicate scents of exotic fruit. The minerality brings a beautiful equilibrium and harmony.
