Vineyard Overview

Key to the quality and style of Marqués de Murrieta wines are the unique family-owned vineyards.

The Ygay (pronounced “E-guy”) Estate is located on the southerly limit of the Rioja Alta and is comprised of 740 acres of prime vineyards. The vineyards are divided into several smaller plots, including the single vineyards of Capellanía; Canajas, which is the source of the unique Dalmau; and La Plana, source of the esteemed Castillo Ygay.

Recognised as one of Europe’s most iconic century-old industrial buildings and surrounded by the winery's vineyards, the Ygay Castle accommodates the whole of Marqués de Murrieta’s winemaking history, one which laid the foundations of the D.O.Ca. Rioja Designation of Origin. Inside the castle, visitors can tour the historic production cellar, the cask aging rooms and the collection of wines from 1852 to the present, inspecting historic Marqués de Murrieta labels and documents along the way.
