History

Querciabella, which translates to beautiful oak, was founded in 1974 by Sebastiano’s father, Milan-based entrepreneur and art collector Giuseppe Castiglioni. His love for art could only be rivaled by his passion for wine, and the rise of Super Tuscan wines in the 1970s fueled his ambition to produce a great wine that could compete with the bottles he grew to love.

The winery has been organic since 1988, and in 2000, converted from organic to 100% biodynamic. There is no use of chemicals, fertilizers or pesticides, creating a welcoming environment for the existence of beneficial insects and birds that assist the natural viticultural practices.

A further step was taken since the 2010 growing season to implement a completely proprietary plant-based approach to biodynamics, which is why Querciabella can now say that their wines are suitable for vegans.
