“The 2015 Branco Duas Quintas Reserva has been seen before, but only as a barrel sample. It is now in the USA with some time to settle in bottle. Mostly Rabigato, it also has 5% Folgazão and 15% Gouveio. It was partly (25%) aged for nine months in mostly French and some Austrian barrels (only 10% new in total), the rest in stainless steel. This overachiever has both concentration and structure. As it warms, it tightens nicely on the finish, showing some tension as well as flavor. It controls its oak well and that will continue to improve. In the meanwhile, it has the stuffing to hold up to food and the balance to drink well on its own. There is more zing and zest obvious now since my first look. It has opened and blossomed. It is also obvious that this is a good contender for the best white table wine that Ramos Pinto has shown me. If you like them fresh and vibrant, this punches the ticket. Needless to say, in this super Branco vintage it is also a super value.”
Ramos Pinto, an iconic Port producer, broke ground when it introduced still wines from the Douro, and has made vitality, excellence and elegance synonymous with the Duas Quintas name. Duas Quintas is synonymous with blends - of highlands and lowlands, of maturity and freshness, of schist and granite. The White Reserva is a selection of grape varieties with personality, high natural acidity and a remarkable aromatic complexity. It is a wine with structure to be enjoyed while young and which can evolve well during the ageing process.
The blend is the result of a meticulous selection of grape varieties with personality, with high natural acidity and a remarkable aromatic complexity. The grapes are from two Estates (Quintas) - Ervamoira, at a low altitude with schist soil; and Bons Ares, at a high altitude and with granite soil. Driven by curiosity and interest in exploring traditional values and using the most modern techniques as a tool, we selected four white grape varieties from Douro, from our Quinta de Ervamoira and Quinta dos Bons Ares: Rabigato, Viosinho, Folgazão and Arinto. The grapes are harvested by hand and taken to the winery in small boxes, separated according to variety and plot; the must is obtained by direct pressing, following cold maceration. The clean must ferments in stainless steel vats (75%) and in French and Austrian oak barrels (25% -10% of which is new oak) of various capacities (225-700 L) where, after turning into wine, it ages for 9 months on fine lees. This wine was bottled in June 2015.
Crystalline appearance, clear yellow color with greenish reflexes. The wine has a characteristic nose with elegant floral notes, where orange blossom dominates, followed by aromas of ripe peach and other citrus tones. Duas Quintas White Reserve 2014 has a beautiful structure, full-bodied and fluid, with freshness and presence. Smoked and floral aromas leave a mineral and saline sensation which gives it a long finish.
Ideal as an aperitif. Perfect to serve with shellfish, for example: prawns with mayonnaise, crab, or the wonderful steamed lobster. Excellent with many salads such as rocket salad with Iberian cured ham. It may also be drunk with foie gras or partridge vol-au-vent. It goes well with a variety of fish dishes, and we recommend you try it with sea bass, steamed or baked in a salt crust, or sea bream. Serve between 55º and 59ºF (13ºC and 15ºC). Store bottles horizontally in a cool, dry place, away from light.
