Best Buy. “Blended from two vineyards in the Douro Superior, with Ervamoira providing the smokiness of grapes grown in schist, and Bons Ares the tight structure of wine from granite, this is a rich, leesy white that finishes clean.”

“This wine is produced from two of the quintas owned by Ramos-Pinto. It’s fruity and crisp, packed with bright fruit and lively acidity, and finishes on tangy citrus with a riper, creamy texture.”

Overview

Ramos Pinto produces Duas Quintas in the Douro Valley, where vineyards have been planted for over 2000 years. Duas Quintas White is distinguished by its character and elegance, and embodies the precision, freshness and richness of the wines from this iconic Port and groundbreaking Douro still wine producer. The wine's label mirrors Duas Quintas’ modern elegance and new energy.

Winemaking

Duas Quintas White is made of grapes from two unique vineyards, Quinta de Ervamoira (150 metres altitude) and Quinta dos Bons Ares (600 metres altitude). Weather conditions in 2014 in the Upper Douro were marked by a dry winter, warm spring and cool summer. Maturation was regular and more advanced than in 2013 so that the harvest began 10 days earlier than usual. When the September rains began, the white grapes had already been picked. The grapes are harvested by hand and transported to the winemaking center in small boxes. After being selected at the winery reception, the grapes are vinified separately, according to the variety and the vineyard. The must is obtained by direct pressing after cold maceration. The clean must was fermented in stainless steel vats at low temperature (90%) and in French and Austrian oak casks of varying sizes (10%).

Tasting Notes

Duas Quintas White is a blend of traditional grape varieties that expresses the potential of this extreme region. It is a structured, unctuous white wine but also fine and elegant. 2014 produced expressive and vibrant white wines with good acidity. Clean and bright, very pale with light gold reflections. Fine and expressive nose with delicate aromas of sweet fruit, melon and grape, with floral notes of roses, and white flowers and a final hint of spices. A fluid wine in the mouth, with excellent acidity and a surprising structure. Citrus notes complement the aromatic expression of fruits and flowers.

Food Pairing

The Duas Quintas White 2014 is excellent when served as an aperitif or an accompaniment to raw, canned or smoked fish, particularly oily fish such as salmon, herring, sardine, mackerel and tune (especially tuna belly). Also try it with Iberian dry-cured ham, mushroom risotto or roast chicken. Best served between 54º and 57ºF (12º and 14º C). Store the bottle on its side in a cool, dry and dark place.
