Champagne Louis Roederer at the Hampton Classic
Ten Years at the Hampton Classic
OAKLAND, CA.— It has been a decade since Champagne Louis Roederer (Reims, France) first joined the Classic as one of the official corporate sponsors. Today, the relationship continues to flourish with the same excitement that it has had for the last ten years.
Each year the winner of the event receives a Jeroboam (three liter bottle) of Cristal. Not available commercially, the Cristal jeroboams are offered to a few select charitable events and wine auctions where they have fetched as much as $17,000 for each bottle. Created in 1876 at the express request of Tsar Alexander II of Russia, Cristal was the world’s first prestige champagne.
« We are proud to continue this strong partnership with the Hampton Classic and look forward to many more years» says Gregory Balogh, President of Maisons Marques & Domaines, the marketing company for Champagne Louis Roederer in the U.S. The event is also of special interest to Jean-Claude Rouzaud, owner and President of the Champagne Louis Roederer, an excellent horseman who spends time at Rouges-Terres in Normandy, one of Frances’ most famous stud farms. Mr. Rouzaud, who will attend the event this year on the occasion of the 10th anniversary states «The Hampton Classic is a lifestyle event that mixes sportsmanship, art, wine and food - all the elements so important to Champagne Louis Roederer. »
Champagne Louis Roederer was founded in 1776 in Reims, France and today remains a family company, who emphasizes quality before quantity. Jean-Claude Rouzaud, Camille Olry-Roederer’s grandson, has managed the company for over thirty years and is today joined by his son, Frédéric. With over 75% of their grape needs sourced from their own estate vineyards, the family-owned company continues to produce a prestigious portfolio consisting of: Brut Premier, Brut Vintage, Blanc de Blancs, Brut Rosé and Cristal Champagnes.
