Boris Champy, Winemaker, to return to Europe; Tod Mostero to join Dominus Estate as Technical Director
YOUNTVILLE, CA – Dominus Estate announced today that as of this year-end, Boris Champy will step down as winemaker.
“After ten years with Dominus, the time is right for me and my family to return to Europe,” said Champy. “I’ve learned so much about viticulture and winemaking from Christian Moueix and Jean-Claude Berrouet, and have worked on developing the vineyard and producing some great vintages. I am ready for new challenges.”
With Champy’s decision, Dominus Estate announces that Tod Mostero will join as Technical Director as of August 1, 2007. Mostero was most recently winemaker at Viña Almaviva (Baron Philippe de Rothschild and Concha y Toro), Puente Alto, Chile, and before then Technical Manager of Domaine de Lambert (Baron Philippe de Rothschild), Languedoc-Roussillon, France. He has extensive winemaking experience in France, having trained with Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Ets. Jean-Pierre Moueix, and Chateau Haut-Brion. He also worked at Opus One in 1999 and, therefore, knows Napa Valley firsthand.
Champy will remain with Dominus Estate until December 15, 2007 to help provide a smooth and successful transition for Mostero.
Dominus Estate is the Napa Valley property of Bordeaux producer, Christian Moueix. Dominus and Napanook are the two red wines produced from the historic Napanook Vineyard in Yountville: with their Napa terroir, they are made with a Bordeaux spirit always in mind.
