International recognition for Meerlust Rubicon 2001
Meerlust Rubicon 2001
On Tuesday evening, 31st October, at the historic Old Billingsgate in London, Hannes Myburgh, the owner of the Meerlust Estate in Stellenbosch, South Africa, collected the Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse De Lalande Trophy for best blended red wine for Meerlust Rubicon 2001.
The trophy was presented by May de Lencquesaing of Chateau Pichon Longueville at the 37th International Wine & Spirits Competition which received entries from 72 countries around the world.
The Rubicon 2001 was made by the previous Cellar Master at Meerlust, Giorgio Dalla Cia, who was responsible for creating the first commercial Rubicon blend in 1980 together with Nicolaas Myburgh, the father of Hannes.
The Rubicon 2001 recently received a rating of 94 points from the Wine Enthusiast magazine in the United States.
Hannes Myburgh commented on arriving back in South Africa “Over 6000 wines were entered into the IWSC so the competition was of a very high standard. For Meerlust Rubicon 2001 to be awarded the Best Red Blend is an honour. This trophy is a tribute to my father’s foresight and the passion of Giorgio Dalla Cia.”
