Jean-Pierre Moueix Partners with MMD

MMD Announces New Partnership

LIBOURNE, FRANCE – Christian Moueix, President of Etablissements Jean-Pierre Moueix (JPM), the producer of world-renowned wines, announced the expansion of its business with Maisons, Marques and Domaines USA, Inc. (MMD), Oakland, California, the U.S. marketing company owned by Champagne Louis Roederer (CLR), Reims, France. This development follows a joint purchase of the famous Bordeaux negociant, Descaves, made by CLR and Jean-François Moueix, brother to Christian and President of Etablissements Duclot, Bordeaux, France.

In 1999, MMD began exclusive U.S. representation of two properties from the JPM portfolio: Château Le Prieuré, Saint Emilion Grand Cru Classé, and Château Lafleur-Gazin, Pomerol. Shortly thereafter, JPM granted MMD an allocation of the first release of Château Hosanna, Pomerol. This July, commencing with the 2000 vintage, MMD will also distribute, on an exclusive basis, Château Fonplegade, Saint Emilion Grand Cru Classé, Château Magdelaine, Saint Emilion Premier Grand Cru Classé, Château Moulinet, Pomerol and Château Certan-Marzelle, Pomerol.

Christian Moueix stated, “With our existing joint business venture in place and the synergy of the two companies, I believe that this expansion is natural.”

Jean-Claude Rouzaud, President of CLR and MMD, further commented, “We are delighted and excited to represent the distinguished brands of JPM that complement our existing portfolio of prestige wines—we welcome the opportunity presented to us.”

Etablissements Jean-Pierre Moueix was founded in 1937 and is situated along the Dordogne River, in Libourne. Today, the company manages, as proprietor or farmer, a portfolio of 12 esteemed properties, and as a wine merchant, sells numerous wines from Right Bank châteaux.
