Pretty notes of oreo biscuits and vanilla mingle with fresh berry fruit and lemon zest. Bright and tasty with a medium body, fine tannins and crunchy acidity. Excellent length. Drink from 2024.
Overview
As often quoted in the Médoc, "There is no great vineyard which cannot see the river." As all the best Grands Crus from the Médoc area, Château Loudenne's vineyard benefits from an exceptional terroir: two gravelly hills that slope gently down to the banks of the Gironde estuary, reflecting the sun rays, reducing the risk of frost and helping the grapes to ripen. This privileged terroir contributes to the unique complexity and finesse of Château Loudenne wines.
Château Loudenne also benefits from ocean breezes that create a favorable microclimate for the maturation of the grape: the flavor is concentrated through evaporation and mild humidity. The soil is predominantly clay and limestone.
2021 was the third year of conversion to organic farming High Environmental Value (HVE Level 3).
Winemaking
Thermoregulated stainless steel and concrete vats, followed by horizontal pressing, separation and selection of press juice. Malolactic fermentation in barrel. Average 25 days fermentation.
Tasting Notes
Cherry red color. Elegant and fine nose with fruity aromas of black fruits (blackcurrant and blackberry) as well as notes of coffee. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, Loudenne's 2021 is characterized by its finesse, freshness, balance and long palate. It expresses more particularly its fine and powerful flavors with velvety and elegant tannins in the finish. Very long lasting in the mouth.
Harvest Notes
Thanks to its favorable microclimate, Loudenne escaped the frost episodes of April and early May. Spring was rainy but the flowering took place in good warm and dry climatic conditions. With several rainfalls until the beginning of July, the period has been difficult for the protection of the vines against mildew. Once again, our team was able to cope with the pressure. The summer was mild and marked by episodes of rain, with fortunately beautiful warm and sunny days early September. The perfect sanitary state of the grapes allowed us to wait serenely for their good maturity to start the harvest; Loudenne having been among the last to do so.
