This regal expression of Barolo comes from old vines in Monforte d'Alba's prized Mosconi vineyard. Aromas of dusty dried cherries lead a procession down a gravel path, accompanied by black tea leaves and whispers of cigar box spice. Warmed plums and fruit compote ascend on the palate, lifted by blood orange zest and fresh cut herbs. The elegant tannins, shaped by 30 months in French oak, descend like royalty on a grand staircase, floating not walking. The finish refuses to bid farewell, lingering like the last dance at a royal ball. A wine that makes time stand still. Drink from 2027.

While most people are more familiar with the Louis Roederer name from its tête de cuvée wine, Cristal, the Champagne house also produces this much more wallet-friendly bottling. Roederer releases different collections, each representing a new chapter for the winery, and this represents the 245th. This iteration can be defined by notes of ripe peaches, yellow nectarines, rosemary, citrus, and brioche. There’s also a flinty minerality that adds freshness on the palate.

The 2022 Albariño Gran Vino aged for four months on lees, followed by eight months in stainless steel, with 15% aged in acacia barrels. It opens with fine notes of linden blossom and anise, alongside pear, biscuit and a balsamic hint of eucalyptus, plus a touch of apricot. This is creamy and flavorful, with a supple texture and a fresh lift. It is ready to drink now. The 2022 is an interesting style that emphasizes aging character over primary fruit.

This is a layered and complex rosé showing aromas ranging from strawberries, apricot pits and pink grapefruits to nutmeg, pastries and rust. It’s firm, focused and minerally with a tight mousse and a long, taut finish. Drink or hold.

This bone-dry rosé Champagne is crisp and taut, showing aromas of grapefruit, crushed stones, apples and a hint of nutmeg. It’s fresh and minerally, with tight bubbles and lots of tension. Shows restraint. Drink or hold.
