The Livio Felluga 2023 Friuli Colli Orientali Illivio is led by Pinot Bianco with Chardonnay, varieties introduced to the region during the Habsburg Empire era. Aged for eight to nine months in French oak, the wine shows subtle integration of wood, with delicate spice framing notes of candied lemon rind, lemon oil and hints of Mediterranean herbs and potpourri. From a cooler, rainy vintage, it balances freshness with notable volume and texture, offering a layered, elegant expression with refined complexity and a softly structured finish. This is a terrific buy at an honest price.

The Livio Felluga 2021 Rosazzo Abbazia di Rosazzo is a blend of Friulano, Pinot Bianco, Sauvignon, Malvasia and Ribolla Gialla that shows a balsamic and structured profile, with notes that recall myrtle berry, alpine herbs and a slightly austere, almost “glacial” character. The wine is defined and precise, leaning into a firmer, more nervous style where Friulano—sourced from two distinct sites—plays a central role, giving a harder, more edgy expression compared to the more tropical and immediate profile found in Terre Alte. This taut, mineral-driven personality emphasizes tension and longevity, and it is worth noting that the wine was not produced in 2020, further highlighting the selective approach taken in its production.

The Livio Felluga 2021 Rosazzo Terre Altae is one of the most elegant expressions I tasted in Friuli from this vintage. This historic blend of Friulano, Pinot Bianco and Sauvignon Blanc shows impressive harmony between fragrance, texture and freshness. The mid-weight palate offers generous notes of melon and orchard fruit, lifted by a soft hint of pastry cream that brings everything together. First created in the 1980s as a benchmark white for the region, Terre Alte remains a classic. It is timeless, balanced and beautifully composed.

The Livio Felluga 2022 Rosazzo Terre Alte is the estate’s flagship wine, a classic blend of Friulano, Pinot Bianco and Sauvignon Blanc sourced from old vines planted between the 1950s and 1970s. Despite a warm vintage, balanced rainfall and hillside vineyard vigor preserved freshness and composure. The wine shows layered notes of citrus, mandarin and subtle tropical fruit, alongside Mediterranean herbs and mineral, saline tones from the Ponca soils. Deep-rooted vines contribute concentration and structure, yet the wine remains precise and harmonious, with nothing out of place and a long, refined finish.

The Livio Felluga 2019 Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit (in a 375-milliliter bottle) shows a bright golden hue with opulent yet beautifully balanced aromas of sweet fruit and marron glacé with whipped cream. Once a prized dessert wine of European nobility, Picolit remains a rare and niche expression today, and this was the only example tasted for this report, underscoring its scarcity and prestige. Made from a grape affected by natural flower abortion, which limits the number of berries per cluster and concentrates richness and density, the wine achieves remarkable intensity while never feeling heavy or cloying, instead maintaining freshness and a vertical, elegant profile throughout.
