June 2023 93 Points The New Wine Review
“Pale raspberry at the core, this wine has an attractively delicate nose of field strawberries, rose petals and savory spice. The palate has feather-soft tannins and riveting, spine-straightening acidity. The structure meshes nicely with the bountiful fruit character. While there’s a hint of a high alcohol tingle in the background, the fruit tastes remarkably fresh. Unusually, this is a very drinkable Nebbiolo, despite its notably youthful character.”

“A rich but transparent amber, the NV Barolo Chinato reveals notes of blood orange, baking spice, mocha, and rosemary, followed by a medium to full-bodied red with sweetness and delicate, attractive bitterness in its hints of tea leaf and orange peel. Lifted and not heavy, it would be perfect paired with chocolate.”

“A rich golden with an orange hue, the NV Vermouth Di Torrino is potent with intensity and notes of quinine, orange peel, coriander, and apricot. It is medium to full-bodied, with rich texture, rounded grapefruit citrus, and a wonderful snap of refreshing bitter herbs. This is a richer style of Vermouth to drink alone or on ice.”

“There is a more depth to the 2019 Barbaresco Il Bricco, although it is equally potent in its expressive perfume of licorice, leather, turned soil, and wild berries. Medium-bodied, with more ripeness, depth, and purity in its notes of red berries, tea leaf, and turned earth, it is long and persistent and has a great finish with present tannins. Drink over the next 12-15 years. This is all about perfume and incense.”
