Offers firm, appealing acidity at the core, with notes of apple blossoms, nectarine, lemon and pineapple, plus a hint of mango. Details of white tea, almond skin and Asian pear linger on the finish, as does a hint of lemon verbena. Drink now.

In 1982 Champagne house Louis Roederer came to California landing in the Anderson Valley of Mendocino County. For the Domaine Anderson project, instead of using Pinot Noir and Chardonnay for sparkling wine, the winery went for still. The estate Chardonnay and a great entry point into its more site-focused wines. It has a refreshing mineral nose with well-integrated notes from oak aging. There's a nice even palate with a juicy, round mouthfeel.

This red's lively acidity adds nice energy, running underneath a core of black cherry and blood orange that is backed in turn by a potpourri accent on the finish. Nicely done for the vintage.

Bob Gibson farms this estate vineyard in the Deep End of the Anderson Valley under organics (certified CCOF). Ten miles from the Pacific, the vines channel the cool fog directly into their grapes, captured in this pinot noir’s red-fruit clarity. While the wine shows its oak when first opened, the dark-roast-coffee scent dissipates with air to reveal firm grape tannins in a vinous pinot that’s satisfying and hard to resist.
