A tightly meshed white that unfurls on the palate, with a minerally underpinning of smoke and saline bolstering flavors of grainy pear, orange curd, chamomile and crushed almond. Racy and mouthwatering, but shows a creamy nappe to the texture that works nicely with the acidity. The long finish shows mineral elements and light herb and floral accents. Drink now through 2030.

“A lively Sauvignon, this is sleek and mouthwatering, with hints of chive blossom, pink grapefruit zest, green melon and sliced almond. Drink now through 2027.”

“The Illivio Bianco bottling from Livio Felluga is made from a rather unique blend of pinot bianco, chardonnay and picolit. It is barrel-fermented and raised in barriques for ten months prior to bottling. The 2020 Illivio offers up a deep and complex bouquet of tart orange, green olive, a beautifully complex base of minerality, lime peel, gently musky floral tones and a deft touch of oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, focused and complex, with lovely depth at the core, refined mineral undertow, zesty acids and impeccable balance on the long, vibrant and very classy finish. First rate juice. 2023-2035+.”

Terre Alte is one of the finest vineyards in the township of Rosazzo, where Livio Felluga first settled down and started making wine once World War II hostilities came to a close. The wine is made from a blend of Friulano, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Bianco, with the Friulano portion of the blend barrel-fermented and aged in casks prior to blending. The 2020 Terre Alte is superb on both the nose and palate, with the bouquet wafting from the glass in an exotic blend of passion fruit, casaba melon, beeswax, lemon zest, a touch of green olive, wild fennel, salty minerality and just a touch of oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and still a touch youthfully reductive, with a rock solid core of fruit, superb mineral drive, bright acids and lovely length and 40 grip on the complex and well balanced finish. This is still a youthful wine and will be even a better drink with a bit of cellaring time. Fine, fine juice. 2023-2035.

“As I have mentioned before, the Sossó “Riserva” from Livio Felluga is crafted from a cépages of Merlot and two local grapes, Refosco dal Peduncolo and Pignolo. The bunches are destemmed and the wine fermented in both stainless steel tanks and barriques, with the élevage in casks for eighteen months prior to bottling. The 2016 Sossó is a superb follow-up to the beautiful 2015 version, coming in at 13.5 percent octane and delivering a deep and complex aromatic constellation of sweet dark berries, black cherries, a touch of sweet balsamic tones, a lovely foundation of dark soil, woodsmoke, a discreet framing of cedary oak and a gentle topnote of sweet botanicals. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, focused and complex, with a sappy core of black fruit, lovely soil signature and grip, ripe, buried tannins and impeccable balance on the long, suave and very, very promising finish. This great wine simply needs more time in the cellar to soften up its tannins properly. 2031-2085.”
