Black tea mixes with wilted violets, blood orange and dried strawberries as the layered and complex 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Millecento blossoms in the glass. This is a model of elegance, silken and seamless yet lifted and spry. Mineral-drenched red berry fruits and hints of citrus swirl beneath an air of violet inner florals. The finish is spicy and long with sweet tannins and a sensation of liquid stone. Echoes of lavender slowly fade.

This Chardonnay has weight and energy. It opens with aromatic patisserie spices, but chamomile and citrus fruit dominate the palate, alongside crisp acidity.

A compelling meld of fresh black-plum, dark-red-cherry, black-olive and lavender aromas fill the glass. The palate is straightforward and black-fruited, with supple tannins that supporting layers of licorice, cocoa and dried herbs. This should make for a wonderful accompaniment to a juicy cheeseburger or dry-rubbed barbecue.

Black cherry and plum fruit signals this rich, round red. Boysenberry, eucalyptus and lavender notes chime in as this remains focused on the long finish. Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2027.

Pale yellow. Very, very light apple smell. When cold and first opened, the wine was curiously mute and introvert. I wrote, 'A gentle little wine, trying to be as small and unnoticeable as possible.' But three days later it was much more vibrant and interesting, showing peppery curds, pomelo sherbet, frangipani and a bit of buttery oat biscuit. The acidity at a slight angle, but it gives the finish cut. Definitely don't serve too cold.
