Overview
Carpe Diem Chardonnay is produced in northern California‘s Mendocino County, a fog-shrouded region located a stone's throw from the Pacific coast. This proximity to the ocean, combined with the abundant California sunshine, provides ideal growing conditions for these delicate grapes.
Vinified under the meticulous supervision of Domaine Anderson‘s winemaker Darrin Low, Carpe Diem‘s philosophy is to offer the best of two worlds: the richness of California fruit and the elegance of a French wine.
Winemaking
A blend of grapes from cool Anderson Valley vineyards and warmer inland site near Hopland. Grapes were harvested at night to preserve cool temperatures before being gently pressed whole cluster. Juice as settled overnight and racked clean for fermentation. 55% of the wine was fermented in small oak barrels and the remaining 45% was fermented in stainless steel tank. We blended the wine in August and returned to neutral barrels for further barrel ageing before bottling in February the following winter.
Tasting Notes
Medium deep golden-yellow color. Warm, inviting aromas of ripe pear, lemon curd and roasted hazelnut. A smooth, rounded texture wraps around flavors of white peach, honeysuckle and sweet Meyer lemon. A harmonious balance between a vibrant acidity, soft texture and a ripe and long finish.
Food Pairing
This Chardonnay will pair beautifully with grilled grilled swordfish with tomatoes, parsley, and lemon, roasted herb chicken, pasta alfredo, chicken tikka masala and blue cheese or Bleu d'Auvergne.
