Deep ruby/plum-hued, the 2023 Clos Saint-Martin has gorgeous aromatics of spicy, darker fruits, chocolate, crushed stone, iron, and graphite. Based on 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and aged 18 months in 80% new barrels with the balance in amphora, it's rich, concentrated, and medium to full-bodied on the palate, with a pure, graceful, layered mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a great finish. From a magical terroir, it's a brilliant, seamless 2023 that readers will love. Buy a case if you can. Drink 2026-2046.

A perfumed, aromatic, and floral Pomerol, the 2023 Château Certan De May is based on 65% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and was aged 16-20 months in 80% new French oak. Juicy red fruits, leafy underbrush, and spring flowers all emerge from the bouquet, and it's medium-bodied on the palate, with a pure, layered, elegant mouthfeel, fine tannins, and nicely integrated acidity. It's one of the more open, expressive, and complex Pomerol in the vintage, and I'd happily drink a bottle any time over the coming two decades. Drink 2026-2045.

A sexy, supple, and seductive Pomerol that's largely from sandier soils, the 2023 Château De Sales is based on 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Cabernet Franc that was raised 13 months in 15% new oak with the balance in second-fill barrels. Ripe red and black fruits and spicy herbal nuances define the nose, and it's medium-bodied on the palate, with soft, light tannins and rock-solid overall balance. Drink this attractive, satisfying effort over the coming 10-12 years or so. Drink 2026-2038.

Based on 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, and 3% Cabernet Franc and aged in 60% new French oak, the saturated purple-hued 2023 Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse De Lalande offers darker currants, violet, smoky tobacco, lead pencil, and graphite on the nose, all intermixed with the classic Comtesse floral and violet nuances. It's medium to full-bodied and has a pure, layered, graceful mouthfeel, polished yet building tannins, and outstanding length. It's going to be an absolutely classic wine from this address that will have 40 years of prime drinking. Drink 2027-2067.

Based on 100% Merlot from 8.5 hectares of vines on gravelly, clay, and silt soils, the 2023 Château Lafleur-Gazin is a ripe, expressive Pomerol with loads of spicy red and black fruits, smoky tobacco, chocolate, and nicely integrated oak. It's medium to full-bodied, has a layered, nicely concentrated mouthfeel, supple tannins, and just a charming, balanced, pleasure-bent style that's already impossible to resist. Drink this complex, beautifully layered Pomerol over the coming 20 years or more. Drink 2026-2045.
