The Wine Advocate 93 Points April 2026, Yohan Castaing

A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, matured in 50% new oak, the 2023 Hosanna opens with a pronounced creamy-oak profile, revealing aromas of ripe dark berries, licorice, gentian and spices. Medium- to full-bodied, generous and rich, it is built around a textural core of fruit framed by sweet, powdery tannins that assert themselves in a youthfully firm finish.

Based on 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc from 4.5 hectares of vines on blue clay and more iron-rich gravelly soils and aged 16-18 months in 50% new French oak, the 2023 Château Hosanna is absolutely gorgeous and one of the finest vintages from this château that I can remember. Crème de cassis, ripe black cherries, spice wood, chocolate, and flowery nuances define the aromatics, and it's rich and medium to full-bodied on the palate, with a seamless, layered, sensationally textured mouthfeel, polished, velvety tannins, and a great finish. It's just a classic, deep, layered, magical Pomerol that flirts with perfection. Hide bottles for 7-8 years if you can, and it will shine over the following 30 years or more. Drink 2033-2063.

Vinous Media 96 Points March 2026, Antonio Galloni

The 2023 Hosanna is polished, silky and exceptionally beautiful. Inky dark fruit, cloves, new leather, lavender and chocolate caress the palate. The 2023 is a decidedly restrained Hosanna—more finesse than power. That makes it something of a stylistic departure, and also a Pomerol I find hugely compelling.

Decanter 96 Points January 2026, Georgina Hindle

Herbal, fragrant and dark fruited. Creamy with cooling blue fruits underpinned by a softly spiced liquorice and toast aspect. Serious and well built, you can feel the sinewy tannins and softly muscular frame with a dark core all the way through. Well made, full of flesh, energy and power. One of the more striking Pomerols that has something to say. Not overdoing it though. Darker than many.

JamesSuckling.com 97 Points December 2025, James Suckling

Slightly restrained now, but shows stricture and length. There’s a classic nature to this. The aromas of blackberries, blueberries and black truffles follow through to a medium body with a hint of oak and a juicy, savory finish. Reserved, tannic and fine at the salty end. Lots of old vines used for this. 74% merlot and 26% cabernet franc. Drink after 2028.

Overview

Château Hosanna, a jewel-like vineyard of just 4,5 hectares, is located in the heart of Pomerol’s central plateau, adjacent to some of the most illustrious crus of the appellation: Château Lafleur to the north; Château Petrus to the east; Château La Fleur-Pétrus to the west; Vieux Château Certan to the south.

The vineyard of Château Hosanna has a long and rich history. Prior to its purchase by Ets. Jean-Pierre Moueix in 1999, Hosanna was known as Château Certan Giraud, considered one of the premier crus of Pomerol since the 1950’s. It was originally part of the de May family estate, who settled on Pomerol’s plateau in the 16th century and planted one of the appellation’s first vineyards there.

Only the highest plateau parcels of its previous incarnation were selected to form Château Hosanna. The vineyard enjoys a terroir of red gravel and clay on "crasse de fer" which is known for producing wines of great elegance, complexity, and power. Old Cabernet Franc vines, a significant portion of which date back to 1956, contribute a unique complexity to the cru.

A marriage of intensity, purity and balance, its silky touch has led some to describe Hosanna as the feminine counterpart to Trotanoy.

Tasting Notes

Château Hosanna 2021 opens on notes of honeyed tobacco, cedar and coffee bean. On the palate, the dense tannins are already silky, the finish long and complex.

Harvest Notes

After a generally mild and dry winter, punctuated by a few cold spells, the first leaves appeared on the vines on the 29th of March, which falls in line with the past ten years. A homogenous budbreak augured favorably for a promising harvest.

In April and May, stormy instability combined with above average seasonal temperatures increased the mildew pressure. However, thanks to the exemplary rapid response of our vineyard teams, these attacks were adeptly countered, saving our entire crop.

Flowering started early on the 23rd of May, with large quantities of pollen suggesting a harvest of remarkable amplitude.

The summer was unpredictable, with episodes in June of intense storms and high temperatures that were 3°C above the seasonal average. July was relatively cool, with light but frequent rainfall. The vines maintained their lead and véraison got under way, with the first couloured berries appearing on the 17th of July.

Green harvesting and meticulous grooming significantly reduced yields to foster ripening and uniformity of the crop.

August got off to a fairly cool start before tipping over to an intense heatwave from the 16th to the 24th, followed by a sudden drop in temperature. Hours of sunshine were below expectations, departing from the sunny character of recent vintages. In September, a heat wave struck again until the 11th, giving way to light rainfall, which encouraged full ripening.

The harvest took place under summer conditions from the 7th to the 19th of September.
