Merry Edwards Winery Flax Vineyard Pinot Noir 2018
United States Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

“This vineyard-designate is tart and rich in crunchy red fruit, the body, which is full and fleshy on the palate, is rendered in an opulent style. Toasted oak and supple tannin add to the weight, breadth and complexity of the wine.”

“Forest, clove, oak and thick tannin make for a hearty entry into this perennially impressive vineyard-designate—one of the producer's earliest partnerships. Weighty and powerful, it offers forest floor, tea and wild strawberry, the acidity lasting and lively.”

“Juicy with brawny black fruit, this wine offers soft, supple tannins that support fleshy ongoing richness on the midpalate. Varietally satisfying and expressive in velvety texture, it finishes in baking spice and a depth of earth.”

“Medium ruby-purple, the 2018 Pinot Noir Klopp Ranch offers aromas of cranberries, rhubarb and blackberries with notes of earth, tar and woodsmoke. The medium-bodied palate has pretty, earth-laced fruits with a grainy frame and uncomplicated finish. This feels youthfully mute and may open up with some more time in bottle. ”

“The 2018 Pinot Noir Olivet Lane is all restraint. Blood orange, red berry fruit, mint, rose petal and star anise all give the Olivet Lane a very pretty aromatic top register. Medium in body and understated, the Olivet Lane is finely sculpted, vivid and exceptionally polished. It is also less expressive today than most of the wines in the lineup. I would prefer to give it a bit of aeration.”
