“Wonderfully ripe and generous with plenty of yellow fruit, this is a very sensual dry riesling that flows gracefully over the palate. Almost a Burgundian texture in the middle, but the citrusy freshness at the long, salty finish is distinctly northern. Drinkable now, but best from 2025.”

Lovely maturing nose of ripe peach and candied citrus peel with toasty, herbal and licorice complexity. Rich and generous, but impeccably balanced on the silky palate, where the mineral freshness builds steadily as the finish extends and extends. The first vintage of this wine. Drink or hold.

Schlumberger's 2020 Pinot Gris Les Princes Abbés opens with a clear and aromatic bouquet of fully ripe seed fruits intertwined with frankincense notes. Full-bodied, round and lush on the palate, with ripe and generous but elegant fruit, this is a dense and finely tannic Pinot Gris with stimulating lemon bitters on the finish. It has good substance and mineral grip. 13.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in February 2023.

Let this wine open up a bit, and you'll be treated to an intense bouquet of slate, grapefruit, parsley and just a hint of bubblegum. It's both elegant and fun. The body is soft and plush, carrying a bit of those parsley and grapefruit-zest characteristics. A clean sweep comes in toward the end and makes for a clean, bright, albeit not terribly long finish.

“Greenish gold. Intense nose of maturing Riesling with real concentration. Lime juice and breadth. Dry finish but lots of richness on the way there. Real undertow. Drinking very well now. Food wine. This would be great with all sorts of cured meats, salami and hams. Very long and reverberant. I'd say underpriced.”
